Types of Therapy

The therapy I offer comes under three main categories:

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious mind, in other words the part of the brain that contains all of the memories and motivations that makes you as an individual tick.  I work with you my client to find the solution that is right for you, by working directly with your unconscious mind,  I work with you to ensure that an agreeable, permanent solution has been found.

Hypnotherapy is focussed on rapid results and it can be used to treat a variety of conditions.  Anyone can by hypnotised if they want to be.  There is nothing mysterious about a hypnotic trance.  The hypnotic state is one that you're familiar with it's simply a state of conscious relaxation; similar to that of driving a familiar route arriving at your destination and not remembering your journey, your full concentration was not needed so you went onto automatic pilot.  When you are hypnotised your brain is in a state of active awareness and will only absorb suggestions that you agree with.   You are aware of your surroundings, your companions and everything that is said to you.  If the hypnotist asked you to do something against your wishes; you would simply bring yourself out of the trance.

I will if desired guide your subconscious mind to explore causes of unwanted behaviour and to unlock the emotion attached.  This very often causes a ripple effect where other issues simply seem to dissolve.   You will become aware of the reasons and motives for your behaviour, which in turn will provide you with the structure and ablity to resolve issues so that you can choose whether you wish to change your behaviour.  Once you find out why; you may not want to change things in the way you originally thought!

Hypnotherapy can also be used to come to terms with events in your past and you can if desired explore events in early parts of your life and even be regressed to a past life, to gain answers or progressed to a future life.

Neuro-linguistic Programming

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feelings, language and behaviour in order to feel, think and learn, the way that they do.

  • Neuro  (neurological)      The way that individuals process data that is received through all of their senses.
  • Linguistic                        The meaning that we assign to each piece of data received from other people.  All of the sensations we experience sound, taste, smell, touch, the feelings we associate are individual, complex and varied, and form our conscious awareness.
  • Programming                  The behavioural response resulting from the data received and meanings derived from them.

In a therapeutic setting NLP is used to help the client achieve excellence, and fast track change in which ever area of their life that it is desired.

NLP is usually used following a consultation when a treatment plan is agreed and may be combined with hypnotherapy.  Common simple uses are to anchor a feeling of calm, or confidence in stressful situations.  More advanced uses include personal development, identifying and using successful strategies whether in communication, personal development, or assistance in areas of learning.

Neuro-linguistic Programming is an excellent partner therapy as it goes hand in hand with hypnotherapy. It is effective in treating the conscious mind and can be re-inforced with hypnotherapy to ensure that the treatment is permanent.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy - one of the talking therapies and may be used to change unwanted behaviour, some people find that they can find their own solution simply by talking the issue through and using the therapist as a sounding board.

Patients are asked about the areas of their lives that they wish to change.  A case history is taken and a treatment plan agreed.

Some clients are unable to identify the cause of the behaviour, usually because the cause is locked in their subconscious mind.  If this is the case I may advise accessing the memory through hypnosis in order to find the root of their problem and to unlock the emotion attached to that memory. The emotion is released and resolved in a supportive, professional, empathic and confidential environment.

Often simply unlocking the emotion is sufficient to resolve the issue and the client is freed from the symptoms.  A follow up session will normally be organised to ensure that the issue is resolved.

For some issues such as phobias you may be given homework to help you resolve your issue.

You will also benefit from gaining a better personal understanding - of what makes you tick and why.
