Over the years I have learned about a number of therapies and decided to concentrate on - Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) because of the manner in which they complement each other.
I was captivated by the research, work and results of psychologists and psychiatrists such as Erikson and Mesmer and the practical uses and the effectiveness and speed of results that have been gained with clinical hypnosis. Did you know that clinical hypnosis has historically been used as anaesthesia during operations? It was used for centuries before the invention of chemical anaesthesia. The power of the mind was used to help control the flow of blood, and to boost healing the body, following surgery too; prior to 'learned people' dubbing it as witchcraft.
I was also impressed with the results gained with NLP and the research and evidence of success of Dr John Grinder and Richard Bandler in the 1970's and the way that using all of the senses can amplify and minimise feelings, just by making feelings stronger and weaker - bigger and smaller .... both hypnotherapy and NLP can be used therapeutically to complement each other; And Psychotherapy is simply a set of techniques used to improve emotional (and mental) health it's one of the main talking therapies, whose skilled use underpins the other therapies for the benefit of the client - it uses the knowledge of psychology to identify and treat emotional and mental problems and practitioners use conversation to help their clients. Forms of psychotherapy have been practiced for centuries.
Counselling too slow?
The reason that resolving your problem through counselling can seem slow, is that the counsellor is working with the conscious mind and this is true for psychotherapy too; the conscious mind contains only those things that we choose to remember. When something negative happens the human brain either deals with it, or, if traumatic may try to bury it, so the issue is filed away in our mental filing system otherwise known as the unconscious mind..... As the trauma has produced worrying and unpleasant feelings your mind will work hard to suppress the original issue making it difficult to resolve - that's why formal counsellors can have difficulty in accessing what it is that they need to treat resulting in a longer, or more time-consuming resolution. The reason that psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and neuro-linguistic programming work so well together is that the benefits of all three are used to help the client quickly and effectively. Some people prefer to use counselling, or other therapies to help them, and that's fine. It's your choice.
